a new year

Here we are in 2010, and my wish is simple: for health and happiness.

I have lots of plans, goals and dreams for the year ahead, but more than anything this year I need to focus on my own health and wellbeing. Over recent years it’s been so easy for me to lose myself in all the things that I am to other people – both personally and professionally – and it’s time for me to reclaim something for myself. For women, and particularly for mothers, I’m sure that’s a common theme.

I’m not talking dramatic life changing resolutions that began when I woke up yesterday, but rather more sustainable lifestyle changes that will lead me down the path to my destination.

If I had to give that destination a name it would be ‘balance’.

My life feels out of whack and my health is suffering. If I’m really going to put myself out there… and I’m hesitating… my weight has become a major issue and it’s something that I absolutely need to address as it impacts all areas of my life. Again, this is about balance not cabbage soup diets (not that I’m ever that extreme!).

How about you? Can you relate to any of that? What are your plans for this year? Do you make resolutions, or like me are you taking stock and planing new paths rather than instant dramatic changes?

Whatever you wish for, I hope twenty ten is all that and more.

    Lisa I totally agree with your posting. I too find myself on the path of balance in my life. I this year promise to put myself before others and question my direction. I promise to put the needs of my family before my business and live a little this year. I also promise to spend more times with family and friends.

    Happy New Year Lisa….and ditto..I thinking keeping your resolution simple is the way to go. Mine this year is just to eliminate my life from anything that doesnt enhance it for the better..be it negative friends, bad food, horrible habits…you know what I mean? so that all or most of what remains has is a whole lotta goodness :)

    yes I hear you lisa! having a family means mummies put themselves last and everyone else first!!!! I make my children eat so healthily and I pick and choose and am a little snacker!!!! My biggest thing is just to do a bit of exercise! I agree its about balance, give me the choice of craft or exercise I choose the first meanwhile hubby gets out and runs for an hour everyday! I get to the top of the stairs out of breath!!!!

    good luck for your resolutions and a fabulous 2010! If I could I’d walk an hour a day down in manly and get toned up, always better to start easy than go all out and lose interest!!!!

    Hi Lisa,
    My resolution is to quit being a lurker, and actually say hello to the lovely people who let me read their blogs. So hello, and thank you for keeping me entertained and inspired this past year (sorry – a year really is too long to lurk, isn’t it?!)

    I also wanted to offer a tip for your weight challenge. I recently lost 19kg using a website called Calorie King (no – I’m not being paid to say this). It’s pretty boring in that you have to log in every day, but I found it an easy way to really be accountable for the amount I was eating/exercising. Worth a try – best of luck!

    Know what all of that feels like… And set out on my own path to rediscover balance last year. It’s always a challenge but oh so rewarding. And the old adage is in fact true (although I was afraid it wouldn’t be …) Be true to yourself and the rest will follow.

    I relate to your post so much! My own word for 2010 is “strength” – strength to make the choices needed to manage my own weight, strength to rule over my own life, my own mind, my own body… Strength to make little choices every single day, rather than changing everything one day and hopelessly failing the next. I suppose I’m looking for a little balance as well.

    Happy New Year Lisa, and good luck with making some small and significant changes towards finding that balance. I get so excited at the start of a new year, it’s like opening a fresh new journal and taking such joy in the crisp, blank pages just waiting to be filled.

    My new years resolution, like many other people, is to do with health and fitness. Last year, I made some small but important changes and actually got serious about changing my lifestyle permanently. I lost 11kg that way, and my goal for 2010 is to take that just a little bit further and incorporate a few more changes, building upon the base I have already created.

    I also feel that I need to balance my life a bit more this year. Living the handmade life is more then a full time job and it does feel like it gets on top of me sometimes.
    So, I’ll walk this path with you & hope that we’ll succeed in doing so.

    Balance has been a perennial goal for me it seems. I never seem to find it. Makes me wonder if I even know what it is- or if I’ll even know when I obtain it. This year I’m determined to say no more often- not only things impressed upon by others but by myself. I put so much pressure on myself that it can throw me out of whack completely. So, “no” to excess internal pressures and “no” to doing things other people would like me to do, but I don’t feel 95% comfortable with (a little challenge can be a good thing!).

    Balance, yes it’s so good, I was working way too much before coming to Sydney, I just ned to remember not to go back to my unbalanced ways when I go home.

    After reading the comments from your other readers it seems you have a world of support for achieving more balance in your life and in turn losing weight.

    I completely relate to your thoughts on these two things. In the past 3 months I have lost 10 kgs and got to my goal weight on New Years Eve. It was a great feeling to start a new year with the body I have worked so hard to achieve.

    My advice for you on this journey
    1.Eat small portions of fresh fruit and vegetables and include protein in every meal. Protein builds muscle which in turn burns fat.
    2. Exercise everyday even if it’s just for 30 mins and do it in the morning before the rest of the world gets going. You’ll be surprised (as was I) at how much more energy you have during the day – something about endorphins?
    3. It is a tough journey to take but you will feel so much happier and healthier when you get to where you want to be.
    This is how I did it and it worked.
